If you want to increase your chances of making direct sales with article writing, you should definitely be optimizing your articles for keywords related to your niche. Doing so will generate massive traffic to your website, which will help you with leads and sales. Here are some of my favorite ways to write keyword rich articles:

1. The very first step to optimizing your article writing is to select the most targeted keywords to use. To do this, you will need to do some quick keyword research. There are many keyword tools that you can use but the best, in my opinion, would be the Google keyword tool. Make sure you select the keywords that your target audience would search for when looking for information about you niche.

The next step would be to find out how many people you will be competing with. Keep in mind that the number of competition will determine how hard you will have to work to get your articles seen on the web. So, look for keywords that have less competition. To do this, type in one of your keywords in quotes. Like this, "weight loss before the summer". Now look at how many page results show up. If there is less than 10,000 results, you have a pretty good chance of getting your articles ranked high for you selected keywords.

2. Your articles keyword density is very important if you want to get good rankings with your content. The single most common mistake I see people make is to use keywords too much. Doing this will hurt your rankings badly. Instead, use your keywords in a select few positions. These positions are your titles and at the beginning and end of your paragraphs.
